Yes. There is no electricity or moving parts under the baby and none of the materials conduct electricity. Your baby sleeps on the breathable mesh fabric and all moving parts are safely isolated. The mesh fabric lets more fresh air pass through for your baby to breathe. All moving parts are inside the supporting frame and completely isolated, safely away from your baby. The mattress works with a very low voltage – 12V, like many toys. The mattress has been designed to support a load of up to 8kg when moving and 20kg when not moving. Unlike a normal baby mattress, Familings mattress is totally breathable. The baby can breathe through the mattress even if he or she sleeps on his stomach. This structure eliminates one of the risk factors of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) – the pooling of CO2 in front of baby’s mouth. Take care in choosing safe clothing, sleeping bags and blankets as you would when using a normal baby baby bed and mattress. The mattress fits a standard baby crib measuring 60 x 120 cm, the most common baby crib size in Europe. Do not use the Familings baby mattress in a crib too large as empty space between crib sides and the mattress may increase the risk of your baby being trapped in it, just like with any normal baby mattress.

Yes. We have designed it according to all applicable European Union standards. These include the EU standards for toys, home electrical appliances and mattress products. The cover fabric is tested to not include any harmful substances according to Öko-Tex 100 standard. All materials are hypoallergenic. Familings baby matress is CE marked – “assessed to meet high safety, health, and environmental protection requirements”.

No. The movement makes barely a whisper. The sound level is only 40dB – about the same as a quiet library.

The mattress fits a standard baby crib measuring 60 x 120 cm, the most common baby crib size in Europe. The height of the mattress is 20cm. If you have a baby crib measuring 70 x 130 cm or 70 x 140 cm and would like to use a Familings baby mattress, please let us know at [email protected] – we will do our best to make those sizes available next. Do not use the Familings baby mattress in a crib too large as empty space between crib sides and the mattress may increase the risk of your baby being trapped in it. You can also place the Familings baby mattress on the floor next to your bed. In that case just make sure your baby is safe from falling objects, older siblings or pets, exactly like you would when your baby is playing on the floor.

Yes. Just move the little switch on the 12V adaptor higher or lower before you plug it in and the speed will change automatically.

Familings baby mattress doesn’t have any filling. The mattress is actually just a fabric stretched over a frame. That’s why you can machine wash it in 60 degrees and it dries in less than one hour. It also won’t gather up any dustmites, bacteria or mildew inside the mattress like a normal mattress would do. It’s a safe and clean way for your baby to sleep.

The mattress will help the best if you start using it when your baby is young, about 0-3 months. That’s the time when your baby likes to feel the same familiar up-and-down movement as during your pregnancy. You can also start to use the mattress later but your baby might need a longer period to get used to it.

It’s up to you and your baby. Every baby is different. You can keep the movement on all night if it helps your baby sleep or turn the movement off once your baby falls asleep. Turn the mattress off when your baby is not using it to save electricity.
